What is the 5-1-1 Rule for Active Labor?
Obstetricians recommend heading to the hospital when your contractions meet the 5-1-1 Rule:
- 5 Minutes Apart: Contractions occur every 5 minutes (measured from start of one contraction to start of next).
- 1 Minute Long: Each contraction lasts for 60 seconds (1 full minute).
- 1 Hour Duration: This consistent pattern has continued for at least 1 full hour.
